víya came to us with a unique challenge. As a technology-first brand they wanted to create something beyond what any other companies were offering.

víya’s mission is to do diamonds differently. To elevate the modern consumer so they purchase diamonds with confidence, knowledge and transparency. They strive to revolutionize jewelry beyond just a fashion accessory and they saw how powerful having a digital profile for a product could be.

āyana was conceptualized to fulfill the vision of jewelry for the next generation. To take fine jewelry designs and experiences and tailor them for the future. The name is derived from “mirror” in Sanskrit — something which inspires a deeper look within. It’s inspired by how we perceive fashion, as well as the rare emerald cut stones it’s crafted out of.

By implementing our protocol, we gave the consumer something no one has ever been able to give them before.

To bring this vision to life, we worked closely with víya’s team to deliver this unique collection and embrace their entrance to the Web3 ecosystem. We wanted to go beyond just issuing an NFT that represented the product, but have it live as a connected experience. To give consumers complete transparency and knowledge over the history of the product, who owned it before, its lifecycle from creation to completion together with a way to engage beyond its physical form.

víya’ saw the value in this and we began to explore together. With a physical and a digital product, we needed a solution to connect one to the other. We needed a digital identity that was interoperable, easily readable – not just on our platform, but on any network. It needed to be omnichain and we needed to support it not just for today, but for every day in the future.

We carefully weighed up the pros and cons in our discovery process. We explored ERC-721 and ERC-1155, both Ethereum-based token standards with different characteristics and use cases. ERC-721 being an NFT standard where each token is unique and cannot be replaced by another, and ERC-1155 being a combination of both fungible and non-fungible tokens, allowing for a single smart contract to manage multiple types of tokens. While ERC-721 is suitable for unique digital assets, we found that ERC-1155 was far more versatile.

Every chain also has its own marketplace so we needed to create a collection where the community was strong, already in the process of buying and selling, and receptive to the product we were building. We wanted to find consumers and collectors that were early adopters and at the intersection of technology and fashion. We wanted our product to be future proof, able to travel from place to place. Something that was truly universal and bridged the gap between our existing technology and what’s possible with Web3.

We then started to deploy layers. We chose Eutherem because of the community and Polygon which is an L2, operating as a side chain to the main network. It’s also high functioning, has the largest developer community and the gas fees are far less expensive. We also used Layer Zero which is a base layer between chains or the communication protocol between chains. This 10 piece collection is something we took and adopted into our overall platform, with the digital identity being able to move seamlessly.

Now that the tailoring of the technology was done on the digital side, we needed to outline a strong panel architecture and something compatible with our platform. Something to visualize in a clean, beautiful, luxurious way. The next stage was to craft its technical roadmap for its capabilities. How could we take a digital identity and connect it to a physical product in a way that's secure? To do this we built a prototype with an NFC chip and took the digital ID and its unique address in time. We took this and encrypted it and stored it in the physical chip as a unique pointer.

This collaboration produced 10 unique pieces, five in 14k white gold and five in 14k yellow gold. Each with an embedded NFC chip bound to an NFT digital twin. An owner is able to scan a product with their phone to authenticate it, engage in víya’s NFT-based loyalty rewards program, and simply resell their products peer-to-peer. āyana holders follow a user flow that guides each buyer through securely submitting wallet information on Shopify checkout, to connecting their wallets on the first scan to activate their product and collect their NFT digital twin.

Once the buyer receives the āyana band and activates it, they can see its unique profile to explore the materials it’s made out of, where they were sourced from, appraisal reports, and documentation on its creation at each stage of the process. They can also engage with the víya and the community any time they scan the product — catching up on brand announcements, earning loyalty rewards, and unlocking access to gated product drops and in real life events.Every product becomes its own wallet, accumulating a collection of memories, impressions, and vibrations – making it truly one of a kind while allowing for an integrated experience throughout its entire life cycle.

At the tap of your wrist, you’re able to buy, sell, trade and engage on your own terms, not only protecting your investment but giving you the ability to wear it, share it, and live it.
